It's National Pie Day -- celebrate with a slice. Or three.
Stop the presses -- it's National Pie Day!
Dreamed up by -- who else? -- the American Pie Council, this faux holiday is dedicated to celebrating anything you can place on, or between a flaky crust.
Sure, you can celebrate this hallowed day by going out and buying a pie. Or, you can try your hand at pie-making.
Here are a few L.A. Times test kitchen recipes to choose from:
Lemon pie with Italian meringue
Wildflower honey, apple and goat cheese tart (Not technically a pie, but it does involve a crust, and we doubt the pie council will come after us.)
Walnut and raisin pie (One of our top recipes of 2008)

mmm, pie, now that our President has made his taste for sweet potato pie known perhaps someone around here will learn how to make one Southern style - sorry, Larkin's, it may be good but it ain't sweet potato pie.
