This Just In: $1 drinks at blue on blue
The year 2009 is shaping up to be a veritable bargain basement of food and drink discounts. As we cinch up our purse strings, business owners open their minds to price cuts previously unimagined. So, without further ado, I present you with the deal of the day:
Whist at the Viceroy and blue on blue at Avalon Beverly Hills are offering nine days of special discounts (from Thursday, Jan. 1, to Jan. 9) to customers who bring in a copy of the appropriate restaurant's Facebook page (or show it on a cellphone).
Whist is giving out free lump crab fritters with chive, aioli and caviar from noon to 6 p.m. Best of all, no purchase is required and there isn't a check minimum -- just one free order per day per person.
At blue on blue, specialty cocktails or beer will sell for $1 from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1. On Friday, Jan. 2, the price will be $2 and will continue to escalate $1 per day until Jan. 9 (or until the regular price of the respective drink is reached). There's a minimum of two drinks and a maximum of four drinks per day (because some of us need boundaries imposed when we're offered cheap booze).

I think just about every blog, website and Twitter I've read in the past 72 hours is calling cheap drinks and affordable wine lists the next big thing...
