Downtown to get its very own Malo in 2009
Downtown residents will have another reason to rejoice next year: A new Malo restaurant will open in a loft-heavy area of the increasingly residential neighborhood. Malo’s co-owner, Mitchell Frank, confirmed to the Daily Dish that a new offshoot of his popular Silver Lake Mexican restaurant/bar will open up before the end of 2009 on 7th Street near Grand Avenue.
Malo, which opened its Sunset Boulevard location in 2003, has become a fixture for Eastside hipsters who have a hankering for "Mexican tapas" with an upscale twist, and it remains popular despite a recession (although the restaurant portion of Malo does better business in the summer, when the patio scene heats up).
And while downtown has its fair share of new restaurants, expect Malo’s name recognition to help the eatery stand apart from competitors when it finally bows in late ’09.

Don't worry about the parking aspect....this is downtown and not Silver Lake. 7th and Grand is in very close proximity to the 7th street station for Blue, Purple, Red, and the future Expo Line. With there was Metro transit access for the Silver Lake restaurant outside of Rapid buses...

good to hear that the burnt habanero creme salsa and the specialty tequila cocktails will be closer to me and hopefully easier to find parking around.
