This Sunday at noon, the Haitian restaurant TiGeorges’ Chicken will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit Haitian hurricane victims. TiGeorges’ owner, George LaGuerre, is a native of that country, which has been devastated by four hurricanes in recent months: According to the United Nations, at least 800 people have died and 1 million have been affected by the storms and their aftermath.

This morning, LaGuerre was roasting chickens (pictured at right) for the event, which will feature food and drinks from the restaurant’s menu, as well as other dishes such as chic tay, a spicy appetizer of cod or herring that’s traditionally eaten with plantains. ‘There are some other Haitian ladies coming in to display their talent,’ said LaGuerre, throwing peach and citrus logs onto the fire underneath his custom-made rotisserie, of the other dishes that will be available at the event. If you’re in the area this weekend, it’s good food for a good cause.
