Johnnie Walker is setting up a custom-engraving studio at the Westfield Century City mall for the holidays. The engraving -- in multiple languages, including Hindi, Chinese and Korean -- is complimentary on unopened bottles of its top-of-the-line Blue Label. (You can preview your engraving at the Johnnie Walker website).

You bring the bottle (they won’t be selling the Scotch there), they do the engraving. But don’t bring your Red, Green, Gold or Black Label bottles. The complimentary engraving is only for 750-ml or 1.75-liter bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. (So no mini bottles either.) A 750-ml bottle of Blue Label retails for about $220; 1.75 liters will cost you about $450.

There’s a Hindi saying that translates into ‘in your hands lies your happiness.’ Put that on a bottle of Scotch and you’re really saying something. I’d ask for it for Christmas (a bottle of Scotch with that saying on it, in Hindi), but there’s another Hindi proverb that goes something like, ‘Want two instead of one piece of bread and that too smeared with butter!’ Which means I might be asking for too much.

Johnnie Walker’s engraving studio will be located at a freestanding kiosk in the Century City mall from Nov. 28 to Dec. 24 -- on the lower level near Macy’s. I can see all those CAA agents and O’Melveny & Myers partners (or rather, their assistants) lining up now. Unless, in times of ‘de-leveraging,’ they’re buying only Black Label.

Nov. 28-Dec. 24, Westfield Century City Shopping Centre, 10250 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles. 1-877-JW BLUE LABEL.
