Farmer's Kitchen in Hollywood is 'coming along'

September 11, 2008 |  3:30 pm

Farmerskitchen2Hollywood Farmers Market manager Pompea Smith says the Farmer's Kitchen is expected to open in November or December in the Sunset and Vine retail/apartment complex. After renegotiating the lease with new owners and tackling ventilation and electrical problems, "it's coming along," Smith says. "It's great to see the walls going up and taking shape. And we're now finalizing the kitchen equipment."

The 1,500-square-foot space will house a commercial kitchen for restaurant-industry job training and cooking classes and a 25-seat cafe area (rendered at left, designed by Urban Studios). Smith says the cafe will offer lunch and eventually breakfast and early dinner. "By 7 p.m. we'd like to shift into classes," Smith says. The kitchen also will be used to process produce from farmers (for jams, jellies, pickles, etc.); "there's so much left over after the Sunday market," Smith says.
