N'iceCream gelato and sorbet coming to Abbot Kinney

September 12, 2008 |  5:14 pm

Childgelato Who cares if its chilly and cloudy outside? Not Copenhagen-based purveyors of organic gelato Christian Toxboe and Laura Nielsen, who are opening their first U.S. store on Abbot Kinney in Venice on Sept. 27. The shop, called N'iceCream (the sticky-sweet name is weirdly appealing), plans to offer 85 flavors all created using organic, free-trade all-natural ingredients. The offerings aren't fancy -- think coffee, pistachio, caramel and mint chocolate, among others -- but given the shop's straightforward approach to making gelato, simplicity makes perfect sense.

Mark your calendars: The shop will offer free samples on Oct. 3 from noon to 4 p.m.

I just went here and the service was awful. Ordered a 4 scoop cup and asked for one scoop to be put in a separate cup because my girlfriend is lactose intolerant. The scooper decided to argue with me on how she couldn't do it because of the cost of the container. Instead of just doing it and charging me 10 cents for the cup. Whenever I was in food service the customer is always right and no one likes a sour faced scooper.

Can't wait! Word around town sounds very very promosing - a definite healthy and way better alternative to the flavorless yogurt we've all been stuffing ourselves with.
