After months and months of delays, City Sip wine bar in Echo Park is set to open soon. On Saturday night the owner, Nicole Daddio, held a private ‘business shower’ to introduce friends and family to the cozy space and give them a taste of the mainly boutique wines that City Sip will serve and sell.

Daddio was filled with nervous excitement as she braced for the final inspections, set to happen today, that she hopes will allow her to open for business next week. The sign out front says ‘Wine for the people,’ and the long, narrow space inside is, indeed, low-key and not too fancy. A colorful abstract mural of wine bottles is on the back wall, and the rest of the room is dominated by a bright red counter, with a few seats by the window near the front door.

When City Sip opens, Daddio will serve small bites, mainly cheese and charcuterie or what she calls ‘glorified bar food,’ and she will limit her wine buying to reasonably priced bottles, acknowledging that, at least for now, Echo Park is not Beverly Hills.

City Sip is at 2150 W. Sunset Blvd.
