Kid Rock isn’t the first name you would think of for a classical music benefit. The rock musician -- and former Mr. Pamela Anderson -- has garnered a bad-boy reputation for his run-ins with the law and his colorful marriage with the former ‘Baywatch’ actress.

But on May 12, Mr. Rock is scheduled to join conductor Leonard Slatkin and members of the Detroit Symphony for a fundraiser to benefit the orchestra. The program hasn’t been announced, but in a release, the rock musician said audiences can expect a coming together of the Twisted Brown Trucker Band, an 80-piece orchestra and the hit single ‘Bawitdaba.’

The Detroit Symphony said the benefit was conceived by Rock and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, the head of Rock Ventures.

Rock -- whose real name is Robert James Ritchie -- is a Michigan native and has long been associated with the Detroit music scene.

In recent years, the Detroit Symphony has experienced considerable financial difficulties, culminating in a prolonged musicians’ strike in 2010 and 2011 that made national headlines.
