Robert Glasper merges Radiohead with Herbie Hancock

Apropos of hardly anything except the weekend is nearly upon us and with it an upcoming episode of KCET’s ‘Socal Connected’ dedicated to Herbie Hancock, here’s a video of one of the top pianists in jazz, Robert Glasper, and his trio finding remarkable new ground between Radiohead’s ‘Everything in Its Right Place’ and Hancock’s landmark ‘Maiden Voyage.’ Recorded at a festival date in 2009, the song’s delicate mix of Glasper’s flickering keyboards and a shape-shifting rhythm led by drummer Jamire Williams (who pretty much loses his mind at roughly the 3-minute mark) is a fantastic voyage in itself.
