Ildebrando D'Arcangelo smolders for L.A. Opera's 'Cosi Fan Tutte'
Italian bass-baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, who is appearing in Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" at L.A. Opera, has a commanding stage presence that radiates charisma, confidence and no small amount of sex appeal.
The 41-year-old singer, who hails from the Italian coastal city of Pescara, is often categorized as a "barihunk" -- an informal group of opera performers known for their movie-star looks and musculature. But the singer chaffed against the classification during a recent interview.
"I appreciate it if people say something about looking good. In opera, if you see a beautiful person, it helps. But for me, honestly, I never thought about it," said D'Arcangelo. In the full interview, the singer discusses his career and upbringing as well as his planned return to L.A. Opera next season in "Don Giovanni."
Audiences will get a chance to meet D'Arcangelo in person on Sunday, when he will be signing copies of his new album of Mozart arias following the matinee performance of "Cosi." Co-star Aleksandra Kurzal will also be on hand to sign copies of her recent album of arias.
