Actress Evan Rachel Wood is teaming up with Adam Duritz of the rock band Counting Crows on the new stage musical ‘Black Sun,’ which will be presented next week at the Ojai Playwrights Conference.

‘Black Sun,’ which is written by Duritz and playwright Stephen Belber, is scheduled to be presented Aug. 11 as part of the annual gathering. The musical follows a group of eight New Yorkers who must deal with the sudden disappearance of the sun.

Organizers at the conference said that Wood will appear in the presentation in a cast that also includes Rob Morrow, James Carpinello, Gina Loring and Liam Springthorpe.

Wood was originally cast in Broadway’s ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,’ but withdrew from the musical before it opened. She most recently appeared in Todd Haynes’ HBO miniseries ‘Mildred Pierce,’ in which she played the opera-singing daughter of Kate Winslet.

‘Black Sun’ marks Duritz’s first major foray into the world of musical theater. Other pop singers who also have crossed over include Billie Joe Armstrong, Duncan Sheik as well as Bono and the Edge.

This year’s Ojai conference is scheduled to begin this week, with public presentations running Aug. 9 to 14.
