When “God of Carnage” was announced for the 2010-11 Ahmanson Theatre season, featuring the original Broadway cast — James Gandolfini, Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis and Marcia Gay Harden — it was immediately considered a hot ticket. Indeed, the star-studded, Tony-winning show has set a record for advance ticket sales for a nonmusical production at the Ahmanson.

Stars attract other stars, and Wednesday night’s opening was no different. Or maybe it was. Hollywood’s hottest couple — Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt made an appearance, led in through a back entrance to avoid the paparazzi and autograph hounds outside. The couple, sans their six children, were seated next to Michael Ritchie, Center Theatre Group artistic director, and his wife, actress Kate Burton, although they were guests of ‘Carnage’ star Gandolfini.

Also spotted: Will Ferrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet of ‘Modern Family” and Sandra Oh as well as CTG stage alums Martin Sheen, Stacy Keach, Julian Sands, playwright Christopher Hampton, John Glover and Frances Conroy. “God of Carnage” runs through May 29.
