Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announces winners for 2010

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle announced its winners for 2010 at a ceremony at the Colony Theatre in Burbank on Monday evening. The awards, which recognize excellence in L.A. and Orange County theater, are voted on by theater critics throughout the region, including two regular reviewers for the L.A. Times -- F. Kathleen Foley and David C. Nichols.

Among the big winners were ‘Four Places’ by Rogue Machine Theatre, ‘King Lear’ by the Antaeus Company, ‘Yellow’ at the Coast Playhouse and ‘The Ballad of Emmett Till’ by the Fountain Theatre. ‘South Pacific’ at the Ahmanson Theatre also scored big, as did ‘In the Heights’ at the Pantages.

Acting awards included nods to Chris Pine for ‘The Lieutenant of Inishmore’ at the Mark Taper Forum, Ed Harris in ‘Wrecks’ at the Geffen Playhouse, Gregory Itzin for ‘King Lear’ and Leslie Uggams in ‘Uptown Downtown’ at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Special award were given to playwright Del Shores for ‘Yellow,’ the Antaeus Company for its past season, City Garage Theatre for sustained excellence and more.
