‘God of Carnage’ hasn’t opened yet at the Ahmanson Theatre, but the Tony-winning play is already extending its run by two weeks.

The production -- which features the original Broadway cast of Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden -- was originally scheduled to run April 5 to May 15, with an opening date of April 13. Center Theatre Group announced Monday that the new closing date will be May 29.

A spokesman for CTG said the reason for the extension was strong demand for tickets. The production, directed by Matthew Warchus, will be virtually identical to the version that opened at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in New York in 2009 and that won three Tony Awards, including best play, director and actress (Harden). The entire cast was nominated for Tonys that season.

Set in a fashionable Brooklyn neighborhood, Yasmina Reza’s comedy focuses on two sets of parents who unsuccessfully try to negotiate a peace after their sons are involved in a playground brawl. The play, which runs approximately 90 minutes without intermission, is translated from the French by Christopher Hampton.
