South Coast Repertory’s reputation was built on commissioning and producing new American plays. Marc Masterson, who has been chosen to succeed the theater’s founders, David Emmes and Martin Benson, has a wealth of experience in this area, having led the Actors Theatre of Louisville for 11 years.

But even veterans can use a spot of advice.
