AEG selects Gensler to design downtown L.A. football stadium

The proposed NFL stadium that will occupy a large swath of land in downtown L.A. will be designed by the global architecture firm Gensler. As reported Friday in The Times, AEG has picked Gensler to design the estimated $1-billion venue from a field of three finalists that included the firms HNTB and HKS.
Gensler doesn’t have past experience designing NFL stadiums, but the firm designed the hotel and residence tower that is part of L.A. Live, where the new stadium will reside.
The stadium is expected to be called Farmers Field, in a naming-rights agreement with Farmers Insurance that is worth an estimated $700 million.
Gensler has worked on a number of local buildings, including the new Creative Artists Agency building in Century City -- referred to affectionately as the ‘CAA Death Star’ -- the Beverly Hilton and the ArcLight Cinemas in Sherman Oaks.
The new stadium is still many steps away from completion. Organizers still need to lure an NFL team to L.A., a city that hasn’t had a major football team in more than 15 years, after the Raiders and the Rams moved away.
