Paul Soldner memorial to be held Saturday at Scripps College

January 5, 2011 | 12:09 pm

58574576 Scripps College is organizing a "memorial/party" to celebrate the life of longtime professor Paul Soldner, the ceramic artist and innovator who died earlier this week.

The event, open to the public, will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. on campus at Seal Court. Ceramic artist John Mason; Mary MacNaughton, director of the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery on campus; and writer Elaine Levin are expected to speak.

Kirk Delman, the gallery collections manager, says he expects the talks to last an hour "and then we will have a party until the last person is standing, because that's what Paul would have liked."

For more details, e-mail Delman at kdelman@scrippscollege.edu.

A great artist, a man with a zest for life- who could forget him dressed (well painted) as an aborigine for a Halloween party long ago? May the smoke from his kilns reach Heaven and we all celebrate his gifts!
