At 73, Jane Fonda has taken to blogging with a youthful enthusiasm and remarkable consistency. The actress started blogging regularly in early 2009, about the same time that she was preparing for her Broadway return in Moises Kaufman’s ’33 Variations.’ Fonda ended up writing extensively about the Broadway play (her first in 46 years), offering regular posts about the backstage goings-on at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre and the many celebrity friends who paid her dressing-room visits.

On Sunday, Fonda announced via her blog at janefonda.com that she will again be writing regular posts about ’33 Variations’ when the play opens at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles for a limited run from Jan. 30 to March 6. (The official opening is set for Feb. 9.)

‘I intend to do as I did while in the play in NY … blog every day about the experience,’ wrote Fonda in Sunday’s post.

The actress said that she is beginning rehearsals Tuesday for the show, which will be directed by Kaufman and will costar many of the same cast members from the Broadway production, including Samantha Mathis, Zach Grenier and Susan Kellermann.

‘I have never done theatre here [in L.A.] and I am very excited to rejoin the cast (only 2 new cast members), our wonderful writer/director Moises Kaufman, and our stage manager, Linda Marvel,’ wrote Fonda. ‘This is also the first time I have done a play for the 2nd time and I am curious to see what will be new, what discoveries I will make having had 2 more years of growing up.’

’33 Variations’ tells the story of a terminally ill musicologist (Fonda) who is obsessed with finding the historic truth behind Ludwig van Beethoven’s ‘Diabelli’ Variations. Fonda and the play received Tony nominations for the Broadway production. In 2010, Fonda moved back to L.A. after many years of living in Atlanta. The actress has blogged and spoken publicly about her relationship with music producer Richard Perry.

This isn’t the first time that ’33 Variations’ will be performed in Southern California. The drama received a production at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2008, with actress Jayne Atkinson in the role that Fonda will play at the Ahmanson.
