This evening, the Boston Pops Orchestra is officially having a Shaq Attack. Celtics center (and former Los Angeles Laker) Shaquille O’Neal will be taking the podium Monday and leading the famed orchestra in a performance of ‘Sleigh Ride’ as part of a holiday concert.

O’Neal is scheduled to appear with the Boston Pops at around 8:15 p.m. ET at Boston’s Symphony Hall. (The concert is set to begin at 8 p.m.) The orchestra said this is the first time that O’Neal has led an orchestral performance as conductor.

Never one to pigeonhole himself into just one profession, the 7-foot-1-inch O’Neal has tried his hand at various creative fields throughout his career. He starred in the notorious comedy ‘Kazaam!’ in 1996 and has worked as executive producer for a handful of TV comedy specials. In 2009, O’Neal served as an art curator for a show titled ‘Size DOES Matter’ at the Flag Art Foundation in New York.

It’s hard to say how much the basketball star has prepared for his performance of ‘Sleigh Ride’ with the Boston Pops. Considering that the musicians of the orchestra could probably perform the holiday chestnut blindfolded and hanging upside down, O’Neal shouldn’t have to worry too much about dropping the ball.
