As anyone who frequents the Music Center in downtown L.A. knows, parking is usually a confusing mess that can wear down even the most battle-hardened SoCal drivers. Starting Monday, the underground nightmare will get worse.

The Music Center said that access points into and out of the subterranean garage will be limited due to the start of construction of the new Civic Park, which will be located directly across the street at the County Mall.

Visitors who want to enter the garage on Grand Avenue will only be able to do so via the southbound traffic lane. (That’s the direction toward Disney Hall and away from the Hollywood Freeway.) There will be no northbound access, or left turns, into the garage.

When exiting the garage, cars parked on the upper levels of the garage will be directed to exit onto southbound Grand Avenue, with only right turns permitted. Cars parked on the lower levels will be directed to exit onto southbound Hill Street. Again, only right turns will be allowed.

The Music Center did not give a time frame or a date for when traffic patterns would return to normal. But patrons should gird themselves for the long haul since the Civic Park isn’t scheduled to be completed until 2012.

Here’s a handy map provided by the Music Center that you should print out before your next visit....

The big blue arrows are recommended routes. The smaller black arrows indicate one-way directions or turns.
