New works by Jon Robin Baitz and others at 2010 Ojai Playwrights Conference

The 2010 Ojai Playwrights Conference is set to run this August and will feature new works by Jon Robin Baitz and other notable writers.

Baitz will present his new play ‘Other Desert Cities’ in a reading at the conference on Aug. 10. The playwright is one of the key creative forces behind the current ABC series ‘Brothers & Sisters,’ which he created and on which he has served as a writer and executive producer. Baitz’s past works include ‘The Substance of Fire,’ ‘Three Hotels’ and ‘The Film Society.’

According to published reports, ‘Other Desert Cities’ is set to open in January at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre. Tony-winner Joe Mantello is expected to direct the production.

The Ojai conference will also include presentations of new works by Kate Fodor, Mona Mansour, Len Jenkin, Trieu Tran, Bess Wohl, Thomas Higgins, Leslie Carrara-Rudolph and Ben Rosenthal.

On Aug. 12, the conference will host an evening of solo performers who will present a collection of dramatic and comedic scenes.

Now in its 13th incarnation, the conference is scheduled to run Aug. 3-15 at various venues in Ojai.

Robert Egan is returning as artistic director of the conference. Egan served at the Mark Taper Forum for 20 years as producing artistic director. He joined the Ojai Playwrights Conference in 2002. Times contributor Charlotte Stoudt is serving as one of the resident dramaturgs at this year’s conference.
