Louis Lortie to replace Yuja Wang in piano recital at the Orange County Performing Arts Center

Chinese pianist Yuja Wang has canceled her Tuesday recital at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa because of soreness in her right arm.

Lortie In her place, Canadian pianist Louis Lortie will present Chopin's complete etudes in a Philharmonic Society program that will begin at 8 p.m. in the RenĂ©e and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

Lortie, a native of Montreal, is known for the breadth of his repertoire, having performed the complete works of Ravel and all the Beethoven piano sonatas and concertos and the Mozart piano concertos.

In February, Lortie subbed for another indisposed pianist when he replaced Nelson Freire in an appearance with Riccardo Chailly and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra at Walt Disney Concert Hall. 

Lortie is scheduled to appear at the performing arts center in January, when he will play an all-Liszt program.

I love Yuja Wang and I hope that she will feel better soon! Her music has always been a big inspiration to me!
