Helmeted marchers coming to Sunset Boulevard — it's part of the Ring Festival

April 15, 2010 | 10:20 am

Georg-005 What the heck is “Invisible Siegfrieds Marching Sunset Boulevard”?

Created by Austrian artist Georg Nussbaumer in conjunction with Villa Aurora as a salute to L.A.'s "Ring" cycle, volunteers wearing helmets will march down Sunset Boulevard from downtown to the Pacific Ocean over the course of four days, starting Saturday.

Nussbaumer calls it a "Passage Opera."

The length of each walk is equal to each of Wagner’s four operas. The marchers will include alto Christina Asher.

“Everybody can dream of artworks,” Nussbaumer said, “yet to realize art always depends on one’s possibilities. I wouldn’t be able to plunge a ton of gold into the Pacific, although this would be a beautiful approach.”

Here's Simone Kussatz's full story and here's the map for the march.
