Sting's classical tour coming to Hollywood Bowl
Sting, who last appeared at the Hollywood Bowl with his old group the Police, is returning on June 15 with the type of band more traditional on the Bowl stage -- a symphonic orchestra.
The British singer-songwriter is launching a world tour with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra under conductor Steven Mercurio. The 45-member orchestra is associated with London's famed Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and generally performs classical, light classical and pop music.
Sting and the 45-member orchestra will perform symphonic arrangements of some of his hits, including "Roxanne," "Every Breath You Take," "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic," "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You" and "Fields of Gold." The Live Nation tour begins June 2 in Vancouver, Canada, followed on June 9 in Denver and then coming to Los Angeles. Later stops include New York; Boston; Dallas; Houston; Philadelphia; Portland, Ore.; Seattle; and Washington, then back to Canada with more U.S. and world cities to be added.
Sting, whose past albums include rock, jazz, country and world music, took a turn in 2006 with classical music on his album "Songs from the Labyrinth," a lute-based interpretation of the music of 16th century composer John Dowland. A few years later he was invited to perform with both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra.
