Artist Suzanne Lacy to receive lifetime award from College Art Assn.

Suzanne Lacy, a Los Angeles-based artist whose work has embraced feminist and social-justice issues, will receive the 2010 Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement from the College Art Assn.

Lacy is on the faculty of Otis College of Art and Design, where she is the founding chair of the MFA public practice program. She first joined the college in 2002 as head of the fine arts department.

CAA president Paul B. Jaskot will present the award at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Recent recipients of the Distinguished Artist Award include Alison Knowles, Elizabeth Murray, Wayne Thiebaud and Chris Burden.

Throughout her four-decade career, Lacy has worked in various media, including installations, video and performance art. Her creations typically address social issues such as sexual violence, poverty and incarceration.

As a feminist artist, Lacy has been involved with the Women’s Studio Workshop, Woman’s Building, and other institutions.
