Party time for Kirk Douglas and South Coast Rep

There’s little chance Kirk Douglas will be forgotten, judging from the crowd of admirers who turned up for the premiere showing of the new DVD “Before I Forget,” in which Douglas, 93, talks about his life and his illustrious career, during which he starred in nearly 90 films. Following his newest film, more than 400 supporters of the Motion Picture & Television Fund came to greet the legendary star at a reception hosted by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Diane Nelson.
After another premiere, this time at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, donors to the theater joined writer/composer Adam Gwon and the cast of “Ordinary Days” for cocktails and platters of Asian fusion hors d’oeuvres at AnQi, the newest restaurant at South Coast Plaza. As a musical, the play is not the theater’s usual fare, but one that producing artistic director David Emmes says addresses SCR’s renewed interest in musical theater.
