Gustavo Dudamel got a standing ovation from the audience at the Hollywood Bowl as he made his grand entrance at 7:10 this evening.

Wearing a black T-shirt with the logo for the YOLA Expo Centre Youth Orchestra on the front, he quickly embraced L.A. Philharmonic president Deborah Borda and film composer John Williams, who introduced him.

Prior to Dudamel’s entrance, Borda read a letter from President Obama congratulating the young conductor on his new job.

Before an intermission, audiences cheered for Jack Black, Andy Garcia and Quincy Jones, who introduced various local music groups.

‘We’re from Pacoima, so coming here is like being in heaven,’ said Andraé Crouch, who led the New Christ Memorial Church choir.
