Greenday2 In what is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about theatrical productions of the year, Green Day's "American Idiot" is set to begin performances at Berkeley Repertory Theatre on Sept 4.

And in response to growing public interest, the theater said today that it will start selling tickets earlier than planned. Tickets will go on sale starting Friday at 10 a.m. Pacific time only on the theater's website.

Update: Our friends at the Pop & Hiss blog tell us that pre-sale tickets for "American Idiot" are now available online using a special code. The offer is good for "Green Day fans" only but hey, who's checking your fan credentials? Click here for the details.

Ticket prices start at $32 – and will be sold for half that for anyone under 30 years of age, according to the theater.

"American Idiot," which runs through Oct. 11, will feature music from the band's Grammy-winning album of the same name, plus selections from their album "21st Century Breakdown." Directed by Michael Mayer, who also staged "Spring Awakening," the show will have a live onstage band and a youthful cast of 19 actors, including Tony-winner John Gallagher Jr.

The theater says that phone and in-person sales for "American Idiot" will  begin Aug.16 at noon. The numbers are (510) 647-2949 or (888) 4-BRT-Tix.
