It seems to Culture Monster that the Grove shopping plaza is beginning to look a lot like Las Vegas, with its dancing fountains and enough Italian tile to rival the Bellagio. But on Aug. 2, the Grove is really going to resemble the Vegas Strip when it hosts Cirque du Soleil in six half-hour mini-performances, each representing one of the six permanent Cirque shows in Las Vegas.

Very unlike Vegas: Admission is free. There will also be a circus play area for the kids, with face painters, jugglers and other activities. Visitors also will have the opportunity to meet and chat with Cirque performers. The idea, it seems, is that these Cirque hors d’oeuvres will help boost ticket sales to the productions.

If you don’t make it to the Grove, there will be no shortage of Cirque in the L.A. area later this year and 2011. Cirque returns to Santa Monica Pier to present its live touring show ‘Kooza’ in October. And still in the works, L.A.’s first permanent Cirque show, an as-yet-untitled entertainment that will pay homage to the history of Hollywood, will open at the Kodak Theater in 2011.
