Chris Jones, our Tribune colleague in Chicago, breaks the news today that Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts may soon have another play on Broadway.

Though producers insist they’re still in talks and no contract has been signed, the move is likely to happen this fall, Jones reports. Letts’ ‘August: Osage County’ is playing at the Music Box Theatre.

Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company premiered Letts’ ‘Superior Donuts’ last spring, featuring Michael McKean (‘Laverne & Shirley,’ Spinal Tap) as the owner of an independent doughnut shop facing extinction. The comedy, staged by Steppenwolf’s Tina Landau, is the Chicago actor-playwright’s first work set in his hometown.

Check out Chris’ review of the play, which includes a nifty little video with interviews with Letts and cast members.
