Is Jay Leno a classical music fan? Who knows, but tonight on NBC, he’ll play host to the L.A.-based Calder Quartet, an ensemble of string instrument players who are also faculty members at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in downtown L.A.
The Calder Quartet will perform with the indie band The Airborne Toxic Event on this evening’s broadcast of ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.’ The piece they will perform is called ‘Sometime Around Midnight.’
On Friday, the two groups will join forces again at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they are expected to perform a larger selection of pieces.
The Calder Quartet consists of violinists Benjamin Jacobson and Andrew Bulbrook, violist Jonathan Moerschel and cellist Eric Beyers. They have performed all over Southern California and are scheduled to appear at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Monday in a concert to honor the new Franz West exhibition.
Times music critic Mark Swed called the ensemble ‘one of America’s most satisfying -- and most enterprising -- quartets’ in his review of its December performance at Zipper Hall.
