Geoff Boucher, our brother blogger over at Hero Complex, has long been tracking all things Spider-Man. That includes the musical version, which is rumored to be headed for a Broadway opening in the not-too-distant future.

Now comes word from our sister blog Dish Rag that Evan Rachel Wood, right, has been tapped to play Mary Jane in the Julie Taymor-directed production. She tells Dish Rag that they’re hoping to get Jim Sturgess -- her costar in song in the Beatles-themed film ‘Across the Universe’ (also directed by Taymor) -- to play Spidey.

Taymor is probably best known for the Disney mega-hit Broadway show ‘The Lion King.’ Adding to the star power, the Spider-Man musical boasts music by Bono and The Edge of U2.

Wood says rehearsals start in June.
