Jane_fonda_3 -- Jane Fonda, left, plans a return to Broadway next year in Moises Kaufman's "33 Variations," which had a pre-Broadway tryout at the LaJolla Playhouse.

-- The Museum Associates arm of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art  donated a total of $900,000 to the Yes on Measure R campaign, which calls for a half-percent sales-tax increase for public transportation projects in Los Angeles County. A follow-up story here.

-- In a vote that could affect Broadway's use of wireless microphones, the Federal Communications Commission today will decide on a proposal to make a disputed chunk of radio spectrum available for public use.

-- The Young Musicians Foundation selects a young musician as its new director.

-- China plans to build what will be its largest museum of contemporary art at the Beijing Yihaodi International Artbase in 2009.

-- The credit crunch stalls fast-paced, skyline-altering development in Chicago.

-- Despite economic woes, Sotheby's set a record with its sale of Impressionist and modern art in New York Monday night.

-- Producer Emanuel Azenberg has launched plans for Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs" and "Broadway Bound" to run in repertory next season on Broadway.

-- G. Wayne Clough, the Smithsonian Institution's new chief, and other executives on his staff are getting by with less pay, fewer perks.

-- The New York City Ballet announced it would shorten its summer season at Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
