New York magazine proves celebrities are people too

October 1, 2008 | 12:17 pm

Susan_5 Us Weekly famously catches celebs as they really look in its "Just Like Us" photo page. Photographer Dan Winters trumps the paparazzi in an amazing photo gallery in New York magazine featuring some of New York's biggest name actors and actresses, up close and personal.

Winters' portraits are stark, striking and occasionally jarring views of several notable names from film, theater and television, including Lauren Bacall, Liev Schreiber, Susan Sarandon, Glenn Close, Kevin Klein, Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker and Christopher Walken.

Now we at Culture Monster admit that perhaps we've been basking in the California sun a bit too long and have grown accustomed to the Hollywood glam lifestyle. So we’re impressed and delighted to see these actors and actresses looking like real people -- just like us.

What do you think?

even without that much makeup, susan sarandon still looks NOTHING like me

Cheers to the women actors over 60--they look great (except for Lauren Bacall, who has always been a bit scary to me).

I think The Envelope from the Los Angeles Times does a great job of portraying 'real' actors on their covers.
Nothing like a little journalistic accuracy. I'm surprised stars even allow it.

This whole thing sickens me. Celebrities by tradition are under-educated narcissists driven by the possibility of fame and fortune.
To the "Sheep" who fall on their knees in front of a celebrity I say this:
This is a person who is no different from you. Flesh and blood. In all probability, they left high school to pursue their dream. Someone gave them a chance and because they were either air-brushed beautiful or cherub-faced, they got a chance to star on TV or the big screen. You take that away and what do you have? An under-educated drain on society collecting welfare if they are not busy washing dishes in a diner. Please stop worshipping these Bozos. You only make yourself look like a pathetic loser who has nothing better to do then dream of being like "Them"...An uneducated, spoiled brat who lucked out or slept their way to fortune.
