October 12, 2008 |  7:38 am

Art Spiegelman's `Breakdowns'In today's Arts & Books section, Art Spiegelman discusses "Breakdowns," the culture of comics and the long arc of his career. Spiegelman is also in town today, doing two events:

At 11 a.m., he'll be at the children's bookstore Storyopolis (14945 Ventura Blvd. Sherman Oaks), presenting his new early reader comic "Jack and the Box." Then, at 2 p.m., he'll be in the Fairfax District, introducing a screening of Tod Browning's 1932 cult classic film "Freaks" at the Silent Movie Theatre (611 N. Fairfax Ave).

Afterwards, he'll be at Family Bookstore (436 N. Fairfax Ave) to sign "Breakdowns: Portrait of the Artist as a Young %@&*!," a collection of his seminal underground comics from the 1970s, which has just been reissued in expanded form.
