Proposed changes to the Sixth Street bridge cause concern, debate

The city is suggesting a new look to a 77-year-old bridge that spans the Los Angeles River. Preservationists balk at the idea of cables on the iconic viaduct and insist of creating an improved upgrade that would cost $30 million more than the $345 million the city is prepared to pay. Meanwhile if nothing is done, officials predict that the bridge has a 70% chance of falling down in the next 50 years if there's a major earthquake.
