Readers defend Chris Brown in the Rihanna incident

February 13, 2009 |  1:03 pm

Rihanna and Chris Brown attended a salute to Clive Davis on Saturday night in Beverly Hills.

R&B superstar couple Rihanna and Chris Brown have recently found themselves even more in the spotlight due to their private-turned-public "disturbia" situation. After reports surfaced that Brown allegedly injured the singer to the point where she had to be treated at a "major medical facility" after a quarrel, readers took to the blogs to surprisingly defend the male sex symbol. Since the emergence of the story, we've received over 150 comments regarding the situation.

WHITNEY wrote: I'M STILL GOING TO SUPPORT CHRIS BROWN UNTIL THE END. I DONT CARE IF HE DID IT OR NOT. OBVIOUSLY SHE PROVOKED HIM AND EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES SO, IM NOT GOING TO DOWN TALK HIM NOR TRY TO BRING HIM DOWN LIKE THE WHITE MEDIA IS GOING TO. HE'S STILL A KID. KIDS MAKE DUMB CHOICES EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. GIVE THE KID A BREAK IT'S HIS FIRST TIME IN HIS 4 YEAR CAREER.

shukura wrote: By the way, from what I understand Chris Brown is not from the ghetto and and domestic violence happens everywhere. For anyone to suggest that only ghetto people hit their mates is ludicrous. Gosh, why do people always have to resort to racism when something happens in the news. It gets old and very tired.

Damn shame wrote: This man is facing allegations, yet we don't know all the facts and some have already tried and convicted him. This is why I hate the feminazi movement. Don't get that confused with women't rights either. And yes, I am a woman.

Lindsey wrote: I really hope sometimg about this isn't true
I've been crying about this all day and would like to know the whole story.
Chris is a good guy that I would never think would do this.

Bentiz Lapor wrote: Poor Chris. His life wasn't easy and I understand his step dad beat his Mom which he hated. Clearly, Chris has some very deep scars that he thought he had a handle on, but doesn't. He will need to get help so he will learn how to control his temper (if he did hit her). I'll bet Rhianna was the one who hit him first and then he flashes back to childhood, and before you know it Rhianna has a black eye and a scratch on her face. I blame both parties for letting an argument escalate to that point. Sometime it's best to just close your mouth(Rhianna). Takes two to argue. Plus, if you can't get along then you shouldn't be together in the first place.

Some readers did side with Rhianna and were quick to defend her against the Chris Brown fans. See their comments after the jump...

Anaya said: I am a HUGE fan of both Chris Brown and Rihanna. What he did to Rihanna was unacceptable. PERIOD. POINT BLANK. However, we have to assume that he is innocent until he is proven guilty in court. Since this was a one time thing, he needs counseling, not jail time. He also will need the support of his fans and admirers. Of course we cannot forget about Rihanna. She did not deserve that. I hope she has a speedy and full recovery. We've got to remember they're young, and being a teenager myself (I'm 15), I can understand that he made a mistake. We all make mistakes so no one has room to judge Chris or Rihanna.
I pray for the best for both of them.

JC wrote: I don't understand how people can defend Brown! Calling him boo and saying they love him. I don't know what happened and I hope to God he didn't do it (although reports are saying he did) but just like we don't want to condemn him until he's proven guilty, don't show him any love either. I mean love him, sure but to be coming on here saying, "My boo, I love him, he'd never do it." Please don't glorify him until it's proven that he didn't do it. Just because he's handsome and can sing and dance is no reason to drool over him when he has these type of allegations hanging over his head!

disgusted wrote: Oh, I see the fangirls made here to the Times to defend that jerk! What is wrong with this generation of young girls that they will actually a person who would beat a woman, and give her injuries so bad that she winds up in a hospital? You'd never know there was a women's movement in this country 40 years ago with all of the "stand-by-your-man" mentality going on. It doesn't matter if Rihanna allegedly "started" it, Chris Brown went waaaaaay to far in "finishing it" and he needs to remain in jail for a long time to come for it!

Are good looks and celebrity status enough to get out of an alleged domestic violence charge? Are Rhianna and Chris Brown, as some other commenters suggested, the new Whitney and Bobby? Is beating a woman a defensible action in ANY possible situation? State your opinion below.

Ya...hmmmmm....Rihanna seemed to be the only one with injuries and Chris did turn himself into police.

This means that he beat the crap out of her and he was guilty so he turned himself in.

I'm sickened to see many of you sticking by an individual who would physically hurt a woman? How would you feel if someone physically harmed you in this manner or your sister, mom or girlfriend? If you stick by someone who cuases hurt, fear, and pain then obviously that speaks of your own character.

It don't matter what Chris Brown did. Oh well, Rihanna must have did something serious. I doubt that he would hit that girl for no reason. From what im hearing, I would have hit her too hopefully that is not the case. As long as he aint hit me, I really don't care. Im still gonna support him no matter what and thats that. Rihanna my homegirl too but she just pushed him to that level. I know one thing, she dumb if she take him back because I would have to fight Chris.
But yea that is my opinion -Shanice

most men are much stronger than women, and you never hit a woman!
If you dont have enough game to handle your relationship than be a man and get out without resorting to violence...

'''Are good looks and celebrity status enough to get out of an alleged domestic violence charge? Is beating a woman a defensible action in ANY possible situation?'''
NO Way should any get away with domestic violence... I loved Chris Brown i was only at his concert on the 31st of January. But no matter how good of a singer he is or how nice looking he is, he is a prick 4 what he done to Rihanna. No one has the right to ever hit anyone especially if there ment to be in love with that person.
And now he's trying to get out of it by saying his stepdad used t do it to his mam n he used t cry himself to sleep n all.
If that was the case then why would you ever do that to someone else. If anything it makes him sound worse by saying that not better.
And to anyone who sides with him n say ''oh she prob deserved it'' thats like saying someone who got raped deserved it.
He deserves every punishment he gets and even the it probrably wont be enough.

chris brown is now nothing due to wut has occerd and he should pay very dearly for wut he has done

How can women be soooo Stupid and support and a women beater...if she had the same streghth as him I wouldn't be saying anything, but everyone knows that a woman has less streghth than a man....

i think chris brown is a total disgrace as rihanna is a good looking lady and doesnt realise what he has got.

You CANNOT "push" someone far enought to make it acceptable to beat the crap out of someone. I don't care what she did! He admitted guilt when he ran from the scene. No, we don't know the story. Maybe she did provoke him, but no man should ever hit a woman under any circumstances(the same goes for women who hit men).

You defenders of Chris Brown are disgusting and a complete embaressment....I hope the pictures come out of her, then defend him...

poor rihanna people saying that she provoked it and it was her fault
chris probably thinks that hes good enough to get in all the news and have everybody feel sorry for him saying it wasnt his fault

Well i mean Rihanna was lookin through Chris Phone and fount That he was Flirting way to much so she Threw his keys out the window and he couldnt find them so that was pretty dumb of her because once a dude cant find his keys he goes crazy so she was trying to leave and he grabbed her and start beating the crap out of her so basically this is both of their fault one cant blame the other cause they both had something to do with this so basically im not on no one side cause they both did wrong. So rihanna cant say this is chris fault and Chris Brown cant Say this is Rihanna's Fault.yah feel me

i love Chris Brown so much ! He isn't a bad guy and is still a teenager so he will obviously make big mistakes in his life, he's still a baby. We don't even know what happened yet, but everyone is turning against him for this accident. But we still don't know what actually happened and yet she could of hit him first so he hit her back. Which i think he has the right to do especially how he saw his step dad beat his mum. He didn't come from a very good childhood. Even if he did hit her she probably ended up making him by giving the young guy no option just to shut her up he had to hit her. I do like Rihanna but Chris Brown is my life, I was at his concert in January this year at Glasgow SECC i think on Tuesday. It was absolutely fantastic, millions of people were there. Come on he's a young boy that needs chances. If he did hit her then I think we should all give him 1 more chance and he will never let us down again. I have been crying about this because it was between him and Rihinna and everyones getting involved and his career is shrinking. This shoudn't reck his courer. Please if you who are reading this agrees with me lets tell them straight. Chris Brown needs 1 more chance and i promise yous he will deffinetley not let us down. Thanks x

He's wrong. I can't believe people are supporting this reject. Why? Because he's cute? Please. So was Paul Bernardo, but he's still a serial rapist!! It doesn't matter what Rihanna said to him to make him "lose it". There is no excuse for this. None. The fact that he's not even owning up to it either is both disgusting, and cowardly. The comment made above about the "white media" trying to "bring him down" is absolutely ludacris. Just a kid? He's 19. He is an adult, and if he is old enough to have a record deal, then he is old enough to know right from wrong. This wasn't a mistake. It was a choice.

I can't believe anyone would stand up for this type of behavior. Can any of you imagine that person being beat is your mother, sister, best friend? I've been there, my dad use to beat the crap out of my mom until she finally had the nerve to leave him. What kind of society do we live in to say, it's OK? IT'S NOT OK!!!

how the HELL can anyone defend such a pathetic excuse for a man?
whether he witnessed domestic abuse or not, there is NO excuse for ever hitting a woman.
the proof is all there that he's done it, the police have photo's and she was obviously hurt enough to be hospitalised. it must take equally as sick people to stand by this sorry excuse for a human being.
i know that domestic violence happens everywhere, and it's not just him, but the others are also sorry excuses for human beings, sorry but it's true.

i'm sure Brown will make a nice piece of jail bait.

I can believe people are rationalizing this. Regardless of where you are from or how much you were provoked a man should never hit a woman...period. From the looks of it he hit her multiple times, so it wasn't a fight or flight response..it was a vicious attack. Hope he gets locked uup!

I heard that the bite marks on Rihanna's arm are indicitave of her hitting CB in the face, and his only means of defence was his teeth. Word is, He was driving, she began swinging at him from the passenter seat, and he tried to pull the car over as quickly as possible. The car being stick shift, he needed both arms to pull the car over, thus biting at her flailing arms as they knocked him in the face was his only means of defence. Then she grabbed the keys and threw them out the window.
I personally have never liked Rihanna, as any photos or interviews of her she seems smug, and arrogant. It doesn't surprise me though, being 20 and having amassed such wealth and popularity has a tendancy of creating such feelings. Fact of the matter is she is luckier than a lotto winner that she is where she is. There are plenty of great singers in the world, she just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
What CB did is inexcusable. No matter how dire her provocation, a man physically hitting a woman is never permitted. Even if these reports are true, and she was attacking him, and provoking him, a man never has justifiable cause to strike a woman. It is worth mentioning though, that it is a disgrace for a female to lose her temper and physically strike a man (or a woman for that matter). Thereby she is not without blame. Though in our society this matters not. She could have beaten him to a bloody pulp, and had he barely slapped her in retaliation he would still be outcast by society.

Everyone makes mistakes and to be honest none of us really know what happened except Chris and Rihanna. I will always love and support him though.

CHIRS I LOVE U SOOMUCH IREALLY DONT CARE WHAT YOU DID IM NOT GOING TO WRITE BAD STUFF ABOUT U YOU WERE SO COOL AND GUESS WHAT? YOU STILL ARE AND IF I COULD BE THE JUDGE I WOULD GIVE YOU SOME KIND OF PUNISMENT BUT NOT 9 YEARS IN JAIL. I DONT WONT TO SEE YOUR CARRER GO DOWN THE DRAIN YOU ARE VERY TLANTED AND THE PEOPLE IN THE WOURLD SHOULD BE GLAD TO HAVE U. I ALSO LIKE RIHANNA TO SHE PREATY AND SHE IS A VERY GOOD SINGER AND I THOUGHT YOU 2 WERE HAPPY BUY I GUESS IM WRONG
REMMBER I STILL BELIVE IN YOU AND IF THEY LET YOU FREE DONT DO THIS AGIAIN IM PRAYING FOR YOU BOO!!!!

Chris is just a young man he has alot of living to do this part of it you make mistakes we all do thats what makes us wiser and stronger!!!

hi thing everyone made a mistake and deserve a second chance im not his fan but a mother and for me chris brow is still a kid who have a talents we don,t have to destroy him but to make him understant wath happen beetween him and rhihanna ,he have to apologize in front off rhihana and GOD help here she to forgive him and move on i pray for both off them because the just kids and star or not we don, have to forget that before make any comment.

Hitting a woman is wrong even if she may have slapped him. He could have just pushed her away and left with his security. He didn't have to beat her up.

"R&B superstar couple Rihanna and Chris Brown have recently found themselves even more in the spotlight due to their private-turned-public "disturbia" situation."

BECAUSE OF their situation. Not "due to." "Because of."

Why can't anybody get this right anymore? "Due to" answers what; "because of" answers why.

I DNT UNDERTSNAD WHY PEOPLE R MAKIN A BIG DEAL OUT OF WAT HAPPEN BETWEEN CHRIS BROWN AND RIHANNA IT'S THERE BUISSNESS NOT URS PEOPLE NEED STAY OUT CHRIS BROWN AND RIHANNA'S PROBLEMS CUZ IT'S TRUE HE'S STILL A LITTLE KID AND SUME KIDS MAKE THE WRONG CHOICES SOMETIMES AND PEOPLE JUSS DNT THINK THEY DO BUT GUESS WAT THEY DO OKAIII AND JUSS TO LET U KNO CHRIS BROWN'S FANS OUT THERE DO NOT I MEAN DO NOT TURN UR BACK ON CHRIS BROWN CUZ HE PROBABLY NEVER MENT TO HER ANY OF HIS FANS SO GIRLS PLEASE FORGIVE CHIRS CUZ IF IT WASNT FOR U GUYS HE WOULD'NT HAVE BEEN FAMOUS SO CHRIS DON'T WORRY ABOUT UR FANS THEY'LL FORGIVE U OKAII AND I'LL STILL BE UR BIGGEST FAN CHRIS OKAII CHRIS ALL UR FANS LUVE U AND SUPPORT U

Yes, it's all about the "white media."

Unless it was your sister, in which case you'd be having the guy killed.

Just try, for 30 seconds or so, to live in the real world. Whatever happened here (and it's true, we don't know the details yet) REALLY HAPPENED ... no matter what your personal experiences or personal prejudices might happen to be. This is the kind of magical thinking you'd expect from George W. Bush or Ronald "Facts Are Stupid Things" Reagan, not from intelligent grownups ... which I assume you to be.

Anyway, why do you feel this need to justify whatever was done here? Whatever Chris Brown did or didn't do REALLY HAPPENED, and it doesn't matter what you "can't believe."

Let's grow up and get real for a change. That's the only way we're going to fix this mess Bush left us, and the only way we're going to make sense of our own lives. Just a thought. But really, it might be worth the effort.

i know Chris Brown must be feeling real bad about everything..but i want him to know he still has his fans..that are not going anywhere.. :)
