Nadya Suleman's website an honest call for help?

February 12, 2009 |  2:45 pm

Nadya Suleman's website is now up and accepting your plastic donations

Nadya Suleman, the woman who recently gave birth to octuplets through in vitro treatments, now has a website that invites visitors to "meet the octuplets" and show their support.

This  mother of 14 children, who already has $50,000 in student loans, receives food stamps and lives with her parents, contends that she needs no assistance from the government.  But her new website will take donations via credit card or PayPal, along with good wishes and donated items.

The majority of our commenters seem to think this is a scam, and have already expressed outrage at her behavior (much like our own Tim Rutten):

voracious reader says: Sure, I'll donate. I'll donate to the lawsuit against the doctor for ethics violations and violating the guidlines of standard care. I'll donate to a charity that helps women and children in need. Donate to Ms. Suleman? I think not. I hope the State of California has the ability to sort out this mess and get all of her children a standard of care that they rightfully deserve.

Christy says: I'm just disgusted by the whole thing. What a publicity stunt. Asking for money...what about giving the $$ to those couples who truely can't get pregnant that are desperate for a baby. She can donate her money to hook them up wtih her doctor!!
Unbelieveable.

PR Person says: I think it's very interesting that this website is made to look homemade but the credit line is that of her PR firm. Yet another way she is trying to manipulate opinions. I would never contribute to someone like this -- I would instead contribute to an agency that would find these children proper homes and have the disability payments actually go to help the three kids who have them, not to the mother to have more IVF treatments and get her nails done. In my opinion this is a manipulative woman who is manipulating the system and thinks she can get a windfall.

ms.c0ll33n says: Donating to this bottomfeeder is the same as rewarding her and others like her for making selfish reasons at the expense of the innocent children. I, as a Californian taxpayer, am already paying for her 14 mistakes. I, as a Kaiser Permanente member, am paying for her 14 mistakes via higher monthly payments. Put me down for $0 as my donation to this freak circus.

LilyC says: While I feel for her children who never asked for this, I cannot imagine giving money to this woman. She really should have thought about how she was going to support her family back around her 3rd child, the 4th, 5th, 6th, when told how many embryos took, when she decided to not give any up for adoption, etc. She has had many opportunities to make adult financial decisions to ensure she could care for her kids. She has failed to do so. And thus I fail to see how this is our problem. I support child services with my taxes. And there are many financially stable families who would give anything to adopt her babies when they are taken from her.

What do you think about her new website?  Does she need the money or is this just another publicity stunt?  Who will have to pay to support her children?  Should her doctor be held responsible?  Put in your comments here.

Unreal! How old is this women with no means, no brains, and 14 kids?
She is unfit to be a mother, and these children need to be taken away from her.

1 child policy need in california

tax payer should not pay for such an indulgence.

Who knows WHAT the money will be used for -- manicures? collegan injections? or maybe even a tummy tuck? Considering Ms. Suleman has been less than truthful, a donation may not even benefit the children.

While I'm sure she needs the money, I question whether she is deserving. This woman knew what she was getting herself into, she already had six kids that she couldn't afford. Exactly what was she thinking? How naive to expect the public to come to her aid.

I want nature and evolution to take its course in the case of Nadya's children, who should not be supported in anyway or form, as this is a complete travesty of science in general and medicine in particular. This woman is a social paraiah and her children does not deserve to be fed and saved on my money.

This woman should be jailed and the 8 children should be sent to foster homes.

I also will not give this woman a dime. She needs to be jailed for fraud.

If I wasn't so incensed, I'd feel sorry for this nut bag. Collagen lips ' I need love'...yikes. Get those kids away from her and get her some therapy. TG

I feel sorry for the children of this irresponsible and selfish woman. They did not ask for this.

People should start taking responsibility for their actions. People should also start learning that life is a precious gift, not a plaything or a commodity. I hope this incident shines the harsh light of scrutiny on the fertility industry and the kind of mindset it supports.

Have the clinic that performed the IVF to support her children. Now that's sound fair.

Great another family on public assistance and is not responsible to care for herself, let alone 14 kids. Our country is doomed!

The people of the state of California will foot the medical bills for these children now and for years to come. This woman is an irresponsible, lying, selfish person who could not even manage to care for her first six children responsibly. In spite of the needs of those children, and the eight new ones, she spends what money she has - for a "disability" that did not preclude far too many pregnancies - on plastic surgery and fancy manicures. I would contribute to almost anything else before even considering giving a cent to any fund she will have access to.

The public relation firm is bottom-feeding and knowingly misrepresenting this scam artist. They know better, and need to stop representing her ASAP.

I cannot believe she is using the disability checks, from her own children, along with Student Loans to have plastic surgery so she can look JUST LIKE ANGELINA JOLIE.

She needs to be locked up in a Psych Ward and all of her beautiful children need to be placed with REAL Loving and Caring Children.

Every single parent knows that it is impossible to have fourteen children all on your own with no help from anyone....... Child Care alone will never be paid for by her so called future Counseling Job.

She knew what she was doing and she was influenced by all of the Multiple Birth Reality Shows......she wants what they have and she did it in a very selfish way. The difference between her and the other multiple birth parents is that she is Single and did this in a very unconventional way.

Donate to a hopelessly irresponsible baby collector? Not a chance.

This is a person with no shame at all, I am a taxpayer and I do not like liers like her.
The children should be taken from her and place in normal homes with normal people.
only in this country.

She says that she had the six embryos implanted because she was morally against destroying them. She also says she is done having babies. But, if she had more embryos left would she have them? Ask her that.

Has this woman had a psychiatric evaluation? Psycho!!!

Meh, who really cares what she does? It's legal. The editors that approve the coverage of this insult everyone's intelligence.

God made these children in his own way. I gave and hope they live to be strong and vibrant members of our society. She has found a way to save her other children from you socialist crap mongers.

Come on Arnold....she needs more than $490/month to feed them kids. Kick some felons out on the street so the kids can eat and maybe meet their Dad. Their right to life doesn't end at delivery !!!!

This woman is stuck in her own childhood -- woman like her who give birth to more and more children are in fact trying to "birth" themselves. She is not capable of being a good parent, for that requires unselfishly giving. She is, in fact, thinking only of herself and stuck in the narcissism of a child. I pray that the state will find grounds to remove some or all of these children and that this woman will get the help that she needs to understand and heal her dangerous and delusional self-centerness.

If a sperm donor can be sued for child support for actually attempting to help another person have a child, then this "doctor" should also be held accountable for his unethical malpractice. He should have to pay with my than just his license. He should definitely be made to help financially support these children.

This whole thing is just a sick case of greed. Suleman wanted more than she could handle and this so-called doctor was willing to oblige. This is just disgusting.

As a Californian tax-payer I would rather have MY tax money go to MY SISTER who has Down's Syndrome and has had virtually all of her benefits and programs cut so that all the money could be funnelled to twisted, unethical people like this.

She may as well stand on the freeway offramp with her 14 offspring and hold up a cardboard sign.

I am astounded by this woman's arrogance and the sheer audacity she has to think that she can some how turn her selfishness and greed into some sort of positive spin. There are people in this world who spend thousands of dollars on fertility treatments and most likely never conceive. There are many single parents in this world who have an already difficult time supporting the child/children they have. Why should the tax payers continue to support her blatant misuse of the system? Miss Suleman has only had the one selfish thought to become a mother no matter what and has turned a simple blessing into what can best be deemed a train wreck. Her children are innocent bystanders of the simple fact that while she says she may have wanted to be a single parent, she obviously never thought about the fact that it takes more than "unconditional love", it takes a source of income to be able to give them the lives they deserve.

We'll find out just how selfish she is when she can't take care of 14 kids and EXPECTS the state to do it. When the PR firm gets their representation money they won't be calling Ms. Suleman anymore. Those kids are going to have a very hard life thanks to her.

P.S. Ms. Suleman, if you get a chance to read this; I can judge you for wearing blue if I feel like it. You could have used some rational judgment about 9 or 10 months ago.

The nerve! Having all those babies was a concious CHOICE!! I am an RN and find the whole situation a case lapsed morality and ethics. THe MD should have said no when this woman approched him. But in the end it was HER choice...so sad for those children.
