Extended Play: New Miley Cyrus song attempts to break teen pop image
Teen superstar Miley Cyrus premiered her new music video for "7 Things" last weekend, a markedly mature -- at least by Cyrus' standards -- breakup song. Extended Play's Todd Martens sees the single and new album as the "Hannah Montana" star's first major attempt to break from her teeny-bopper image. Though not overly impressed with the tune, Martens says it has all the elements to become a hit.
Thirty-three readers logged their comments on the original story. Some were less than enamored of Cyrus' music, while others declared their love for the artist.

I c many negative comments that should just go POOF. If u don't like Miley's music go listen to something else and let her be. She is young, talented, and doesn't deserve the negative responses some of you people out there give her. omfg, Miley Cyrus, is sooo gay. She is a teen but she is catering to and pleasing 5-10 year olds with her music. Do you know what that means? Little kids like anything that smiles, looks halfway decent, is not funny (but funny to them) and has a nasty ugly wig. Her new song sucks and is not good for her teen pop image, which we all know will never come true. I hope she falls off a cliff and dies, because I am sick of her, and all of her dumb music. and all these people saying she isn't like Britney and Lindsay, well you have no idea what goes on at her house, or in private, for all I know she could be smoking crack right now. I think she is ugly, self absorbed, and seriously needs to either get surgery for a better voice or STOP SINGING.

I hope u noe that she lost 24 % of her fans in the last 6 months. Thats pretty bad. I dont like Miley, but im not hating on her. Although, she does have responsibility now, and to the ppl that say wat she sdoing is normal teenage behaviour, yes i agree 100%, but she has younger fans. and again " RESPONSIBILITY. the first time was okay, but she just decided to take pictures of herself over and over again. And the vanity fair one, Ofcoarse she not freaking out and shes appolagizing, the reason for that, is the she can blame someone else.

I think Miley Cyrus is great and so are her songs. Her attitude is always friendly towards her fans and I think she has a great voice. I used to hate her but I realized I was just jealous and now I am a huge fan. I think alot of people dislike her because they are jealous and would actually like her if they got over it. Miley isnt trying to be anyone or anything in particular she is just enjoying doing what she loves most. Love her!

I actually like the song 7 Things by Miley Cyrus. All the other songs I've heard from her are garbage. I also like the video too since I've never really seen anybody do something like that before. I like that fact that she showed other girls and how they can react to a breakup. The only thing that I don't like about Miley is how in all of her songs it sounds like she's barely singing. It's like she's just talking 24/7.

Hey, just because Miley is a celebrity doesn't mean she doesn't make mistakes! She is just going through a breakup and it's really rough time, so she felt like singing about it. Just give her a break! All celebrities have their ups and downs. And I LOVE her new song 7 things!

In my people collectors edition she says that her voice is supposed to sound imperfect in places because that's one of the beautiful things about people. I'm a huge fan of Miley's and I love the song 7 things. She rocks I think she should continue singing because with a voice like that why would you quit singing?

I think this song is pretty good. A lot of Miley's fans can relate to this song, especially during a breakup.
I think the reason as to why Miley's been having all of these scandels is because she's been forced to grow up faster because of Hannah Montana. She was only 13 when she started Hannah Montana and she was automatically an idol for little girls. I think she's growing up too fast.

But as a singer I think she could do way better when i write song sometimes people dont like it but it's my music i dont care if you dont like it i justwant people to understand it

All one has to do is look back at all of the other teen music and movie stars; 90% of them are doomed from day one. Hollywood, more than any other other industry, eats their stars and spits them out, no matter what age.
They grow up on a set and learn the false reality of life. The stars grow up thining Hollywood is the real world, where everything is handed to you, and head games are played as a matter of survival. These psychological issues are far too complex for a youngster to absorb and comprehend, so they just play it out, and most of the time believe the activity to be the real world.
When they are done in Hollywood because demand for them is gone, they are lost, and naive, and usually fail transitioning into the real world.
Miley, although her father "want to be" has learned to say the right things, does not back his words with action. Miley is being used and exploited to earn every dollar she can, all in the wake of Brittany Spears, the Olsen Twins, and on and on.
And please, do not ask Hollywood for their opinion, what for, they would never through themselves under the bus.
Good luck Miley, you will need it. Hollywood will only love you as long as you produce. Sound like a certain profession. People never learn.

People if you think Miley has bad vocals don't listen, if you think she is too mater don't watch, if you think this is something you have heard before it's because you have on the radeo and internet and T.V. if she was too mater or had a bad voice she wouldn't be on these places, she wouldn't have her own show, I get why Miley is doing the songs she does now because if she still sung songs like this is the life then she would get little kids liking her even more but if she does songs like 7 things then more kids her age would start liking her and not little 1st grade kids! She wants people more her age to like her not kids 10 years younger that her!

I'm a huge Miley fan...! The first time I heard this song, it seemed kind of "iffy" if you know what I mean... I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. But I wanted to see the video again, just to get the full experiencce of it, and since have watched the video and listened to the song at least five times... I've fallen in love with it! It's been playing in my head all day... it's really catchy! And I like the music video, too, because it shows girls being girls... We're hurt, we cry, and yet we still love the boys who did it to us! It also makes the song seem so much more personal because Miley keeps holding her necklace from her relationship with Nick Jonas. It shows that she still cares for him, and really makes the message seem like "her" message. It's not like she's just singing it. She's feeling it and living it.
