Proposition 30 set to launch first television ads

The push for Proposition 30, Gov. Jerry Brown’s proposed increase on sales taxes and high earners' income taxes, is taking to the airwaves with its first television ad, set to begin airing Wednesday.

Yes on 30 spokesman Ace Smith refused to discuss the content of the ad, and did not say whether Brown himself would appear in the spot.

A review of television station ad contracts conducted by the Los Angeles Times shows that the campaign has reserved ad time from Oct. 3 to Oct. 14. Smith confirmed the buy was statewide.

Opponents of the governor’s tax measure are also marshaling their more limited resources. Already on the air with radio ads, the No on 30 campaign will launch its first TV ads beginning Oct. 8, a review of public records shows. Those ads will run in Central and Southern California, but not in the expensive Bay Area media market, according to the records reviewed.

Proponents of Proposition 30 have raised more than $41 million, while its opponents have raised slightly more than $3 million, according to figures from Maplight.org.
