When it comes to budget negotiations this year, Republicans are expected to have little leverage. They don’t have enough votes in either the Assembly or the Senate to prevent Democrats from easily pushing through their own spending plan.

But that doesn’t mean they will sit by quietly as Gov. Jerry Brown and his fellow Democrats hammer out a budget over the next several months.

On Tuesday they launched a website called ‘California Budget Fact Check’ to put their own spin on Brown’s spending proposal, which was unveiled Thursday.

“This website will help taxpayers wade through budget fact rather than fiction,” said Assemblywoman Connie Conway (R-Tulare), the top Republican in the lower house.

The website says the state is wasting billions of dollars, in part because of poor oversight of health and recycling programs. It also says tax revenues remain strong even though Republicans have fought Democrats’ efforts to raise taxes.
