Jerry Brown fundraising focuses on Oakland schools, not reelection

Gov. Jerry Brown raised just $45,000 in the first six months of his governorship, according to campaign finance records filed Monday.

In July, Brown received an additional $26,000 from a tribal casino run by the Lytton tribe in Santa Rosa.

Unlike his predecessors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gray Davis during their early days in the office, Brown has eased his foot off the fundraising pedal. Davis and Schwarzenegger raised millions in the first six months of their tenures.

Instead of putting money toward his 2014 reelection campaign, Brown has spent his time raising money for two charter schools he founded as mayor of Oakland. Since Brown became governor in January, corporate, union and gaming interests have ponied up nearly $2.5 million for the Oakland Military School and the Oakland School of the Arts at Brown’s behest.
