With the state’s budget battle behind him, Gov. Jerry Brown returned to the task of filling out his Cabinet on Tuesday, announcing Matt Rodriquez as the new head of the California Environmental Protection Agency.

Like many other members of Brown’s inner circle, Rodriquez comes from the state attorney general’s office, where he served as chief deputy. His new position comes with a salary of $175,000 per year.

Rodriquez takes over as EPA secretary from Linda Adams, a former Gray Davis appointee who also headed the agency under Gov. Arnold Scharzenegger.
