Stephen Colbert proposes to California congressman; he says no

Rep. John Garamendi (D-Walnut Grove) braved an appearance on the ‘Better Know a District’ segment of Stephen Colbert’s Comedy Central show and came away with a marriage proposal from the host (which he rebuffed) and some heat over not actually living in the district he represents.

After the congressman declared himself a ‘tree-hugger’ environmentalist, Colbert asked Garamendi if he had ever considered moving beyond mere hugging.
‘Do you support man-tree marriage?’ Colbert queried. Garamendi said he did not.
