Within hours of seeing the draft maps of new congressional districts in California, state Sen. Gloria Negrete McLeod declared she is running for Congress.

“I’m in, I’m in, I’m in, I’m in,” she said.

The Chino Democrat said she will run in a proposed new district that would include Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Pomona and Chino. No incumbent member of Congress currently lives in the district, according to map analysis by Redistricting Partners, a consulting firm.

“There’s nobody there. All the people that were there kinda went woop,” she said, waving her hands as she stood in the back of the state Senate chambers. “I saw the map. That’s mine.”

She said she expected others would probably enter the fray.
