Add press secretary to the list of jobs that Gov.-elect Jerry Brown must fill.

Brown’s transition spokesman Sterling Clifford said Monday that he would not be joining Brown’s administration. Clifford was Brown’s press secretary throughout the campaign and has been handling the flood of press inquiries since Brown was elected governor. ‘It took me a long time to come to this decision,’ Clifford said, but ultimately he opted out of the job for family reasons. Clifford and his wife live in Oakland and have an 18-month-old son.

Brown has not made any formal staffing announcements about his administration. No replacement for Clifford has been named. Clifford said he will remain on long enough ‘to ensure smooth sailing for whoever comes next.’
