Republicans were walloped all across California on Election Day -- even as they swept into power around the rest of the nation. But could California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring be in for a promotion anyway?

Nehring’s name is being floated in Washington, D.C., as a possible successor to controversial Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, both by the Washington Post and Politico.

‘I’m flattered,’ Nehring told Politico. And, he said, a little surprised.

Republicans lost every statewide office up for grabs on Nov. 2, with one, attorney general, too close to call. If current vote patterns hold, Republicans will not have unseated any Democratic member of Congress. And they will have lost one seat in the state Assembly.
