Republicans Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina -- who have taken divergent paths, both figuratively and literally, on the campaign trail -- will make a rare joint public appearance Friday.

Whitman and Fiorina will both speak at the Hispanic 100 Lifetime Achievement Award Gala in Newport Beach on Friday night.

The two candidates have rarely been seen in public together since winning their party’s nomination for governor and U.S. Senate, though Whitman spokeswoman Sarah Pompei says the two have appeared at joint fundraising events.

There have been reports of friction between the two GOP standard-bearers, but that has been denied by both campaigns.

At a rally the morning after their primary wins in June, Whitman said that career politicians ‘have just woken up to their worst nightmare — two businesswomen from the real world who … know how to get things done.’
