A gubernatorial debate that a San Francisco radio station said would take place Tuesday will not happen.

KGO and radio host Ronn Owens had promised a debate between Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman on Owens’ morning show. The hitch: although both campaigns had discussed the possibility of attending, neither formally agreed to appear.

Owens tweeted Monday that the meeting would not occur: “The Brown/Whitman debate scheduled for tomorrow on my show isn’t going to happen. I’m beyond disappointed.”

The gubernatorial candidates have completed two face-offs, most recently a barn-burner on Saturday in Fresno, where the candidates hurled intensely personal attacks at one another. The third and final debate will take place on Oct. 12 at Dominican University of California in San Rafael, and will be moderated by veteran NBC journalist Tom Brokaw.
